Plattsburgh, founded in 1785 by Zephaniah Platt, is rich in historical events such as the Revolutionary War, Battle of Valcour Island, War of 1812, and the Battle of Plattsburg of 1812.  During the cold war, Plattsburg Air Force Base was established.  The base is now decommissioned and converting into in the private sector with offices, housing and commercial opportunities.  As of July 2007, the city grew to 82,215.  Plattsburgh enjoys the western shores of gorgeous Lake Champlain, and the Saranac River flows through the city and the wonderful neighboring towns of the region.
